Cranbrook School is one of the most renowned boarding schools in the United States. It is known for its flexible and balanced academic program, excellent infrastructure, and convenient territorial location. The school's main objective is to develop students in a comprehensive and harmonious way, so they can become successful members of the modern international community. Although Cranbrook is a selective school that admits students based on their academic performance on entrance exams and boarding schools, it does not believe in traditional boarding school methods.
The school has an exchange program with the Cranbrook School of Kent, a boarding school in Cranbrook, Kent, England, in honor of George Booth's legacy. Cranbrook Kingswood has 70 sports teams and both the men's and women's teams have won state championship titles in hockey, tennis, lacrosse, golf and swimming. The school has 60 places available for people over 11 years old and the admission process involves taking the Kent exam (the old one for people over 11). All students work to obtain the recently introduced Cranbrook Diploma, which complements their formal studies and challenges them to develop new skills to improve their “employability” and their university applications.
Cranbrook now has dozens of students from China and Korea, as well as random students from places like Kazakhstan. The school has an extensive sixth year with about 360 students who benefit from its own specialized facilities. Cranbrook Kingswood accepts just under half of the applicants, placing it in the 25% of the most selective high schools in the United States. The school was opened in 1915 when George and Ellen Booth, a family that had earned a lot of money in the publishing industry, opened part of their property to the general public with the construction of a small Greek theater.
Architecture critic Paul Goldberger of The New York Times called the Cranbrook campus one of the best campuses ever created in the world. Cranbrook has an exchange partnership with a school in Kerala, South India, and students visit it during the October semester. During summer months, Cranbrook schools conduct a variety of day and boarding programs on their campus. Daytime places for students at non-selective state boarding schools such as Cranbrook are made using the Common Application Form (CAF) addressed to local authorities, and students must apply for a seventh-year position in the sixth year.
The schools comprise a mixed elementary school, a high school with separate schools for boys and girls, and a mixed secondary school with boarding school. Admission to UK state boarding schools is limited to children who are nationals of the United Kingdom and may hold a full British passport or those who have the right to reside in the United Kingdom.
